NextDecade Corporation is a leading energy company committed to delivering reliable, lower-carbon energy to the world. Through the development of natural gas liquefaction and carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure, NextDecade is driving progress toward a sustainable energy future. The company’s flagship project, the Rio Grande LNG facility in Brownsville, Texas, will have approximately 48 MTPA of potential liquefaction capacity under construction or in development.

They are seeking an experienced and safety-driven Maintenance Technician (Electrical) to join their growing team at the Rio Grande LNG site in Brownsville, TX. This role focuses on performing electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvement activities to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of plant equipment and systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture, consistently adhering to NextDecade’s Life Saving Rules and permitting processes.

  • Serve as a role model for safety leadership among apprentices, contractors, and peers.

  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with Engineering, Operations, Safety, Procurement, Planning, and Vendors, ensuring a collaborative team environment.

  • Support the creation, review, and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance plans to ensure maximum equipment uptime.

  • Participate in and perform electrical maintenance activities, including troubleshooting, testing, inspection, and repair of electrical systems and components.

  • Assist during turnarounds and shutdowns, ensuring quality maintenance and timely completion of work.

  • Serve as a Permit Holder under the company’s Permit to Work (PTW) process.

  • Review and update technical documents, including Job Safety Analyses (JSA), work instructions, and drawings.

  • Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures on electrical systems, motors, MCCs, and compressors.

  • Conduct inspections and maintenance on Safety Critical Elements (SCE) and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

  • Participate in HSSE, pre-start, tailgate, and coordination meetings to ensure alignment and safety across teams.

  • Support electrical systems in both process and commercial facilities, including offices and auxiliary structures.


Educational Requirements:

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED.

  • Preferred: Technical or vocational certification in electrical maintenance or a related field.


Certifications and Licenses:

  • Licensed Electrician in Texas (or ability to obtain via TDLR).

  • Low Voltage Rescue and Resuscitation Certificate.

  • Competency in NEC Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas (EEHA) inspections and repairs.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).

  • Participation in the Emergency Response Team (ERT) as needed.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of electrical systems in hazardous environments, including LV, MV, and HV systems.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, logic diagrams, and wiring schematics.

  • Proficiency in CMMS systems (SAP or similar).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with hands-on maintenance expertise.

  • Effective communicator with strong teamwork and leadership skills.

  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and maintenance databases.


Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Operates in a complex industrial and construction environment, both indoors and outdoors.

  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions (hot, cold, humid, windy, etc.).

  • Must be capable of wearing all required PPE and working safely in hazardous conditions.

  • Requires frequent standing, bending, climbing, lifting (up to 20 lbs), and use of tools and mechanical equipment.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English (verbal, radio, and written).

  • May be required to work at elevated heights or enter confined spaces.

  • Must be physically able to move throughout the facility and reach muster points in emergencies.
