Description:

Bureau Veritas Certification, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification, is seeking a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) for a permanent, on-site role in St. Louis, Missouri. The role involves ensuring compliance with safety codes and standards by conducting inspections on elevators, escalators, mechanized walkways, and other lift machinery.

You will perform code and quality control inspections, identify equipment defects, interpret technical plans, and work collaboratively with elevator service companies and property managers to ensure operational safety and efficiency. The position demands strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles related to elevator systems, familiarity with relevant safety codes (American National Standard Safety Code), and proficiency in blueprint and schematic reading.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct trade-specific inspections to verify compliance with codes, plans, and contract documents

  • Detect defects and recommend remedial actions according to jurisdictional standards

  • Read and interpret equipment operation, installation plans, and instructions

  • Use standard testing devices to assess equipment operation

  • Apply state, local, and national elevator safety codes consistently

  • Coordinate with elevator service companies for scheduling inspections

  • Communicate effectively with property managers, service companies, and the public

  • Maintain safety protocols to prevent hazards during inspections


Qualifications:

  • Current QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) certification required

  • Minimum four years elevator industry experience in inspection, service, repairs, or testing; or two years with engineering education substitution

  • Deep knowledge of electric and hydraulic elevators, escalators, moving walks

  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical elevator control principles

  • Familiarity with stages of elevator construction to identify defects

  • Proficient with American National Standard Safety Code for Elevators and related jurisdictional regulations

  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and code documents and make technical inferences


Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, etc.)

  • Strong technical interpretation and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and in field environments with machinery exposure

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities


Work Environment:

Primarily industrial fieldwork with exposure to operating machinery; limited office work.
