Engineer

Description:

Hybrid work position: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.
This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 times per week.

The VDDV Engineer for Noise and Vibration (N&V) will perform complex computer simulations for the purpose of predicting Noise and Vibration performance to metrics, developing and integrating solutions in vehicle designs to ensure program requirements are met with a focus on vehicle level propulsion and chassis controls integration performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform complex analytical simulations to evaluate Multi-Body Dynamic (MBD) noise and vibration performance in full vehicle structures and subsystems or components as needed with a focus on propulsion system calibration / controls integration.

  • Build, debug and exercise computer simulation MBD models.
  • Generate optimum technical solutions for current and future programs to meet N&V performance targets
  • Present results that comprehend variation and generate actionable recommendations based on analysis in order to improve and lead the design.
  • Produce and communicate concise summaries for Directors and Chief Engineers.

Perform design optimization and variation analysis.

  • Utilize Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology to identify, drive and optimize critical procedures and designs.

Assist in developing new CAE techniques by developing, evaluating and customizing new simulation tools, software, and procedures related to modeling, solver parameters and material characterization.

  • Keep up to date with latest CAE tools/trends, occasionally participate in training and technical workshops.
  • Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products.

Correlate CAE models with physical test data as needed to establish accuracy in CAE models, work with test laboratories to measure and interpret physical N&V test data.

  • Carry out Closed-Loop Learning activities to expand CAE capability
  • Plan and implement physical test or development activities to support CAE, process and analyze physical test data.

Actively participate in local and global meetings to work through issues related to performance, cost, mass and other program imperatives as necessary. Meeting examples: N&V Performance Integration Team (PIT), Vehicle Performance Integration Team (VPIT), Compartment Integration Team (CIT), and Design Product Development Team (PDT).

  • Participate in Global CAE Product & Technical Focus Groups and other work groups as requested.

Additional Job Description

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering area or physics with understanding of properties as inputs to CAE analysis
  • 2+ years of N&V Analysis experience, preferably using MBD methods for analysis

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering area or physics
  • Education or experience preferred to include:
    • Familiarity with electric and internal combustion propulsion control systems
    • Theory and application of vibro-acoustics
    • Understanding of establishing loads and boundary conditions for modeling and analysis.
  • 5+ years of experience in using CAE methods for full body N&V model development, analysis and optimization including variation analysis
  • NVH laboratory testing experience with LMS Test.Lab software and/or other data acquisition instrumentation
  • High degree of analytical ability (root cause failure analysis) where problems are complex or difficult.
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Experience working globally with regional partners
