Description:

Oshkosh Defense, a leading tactical vehicle manufacturer, is seeking a skilled Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer to join their team in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This role plays a crucial part in developing efficient production systems and ensuring product quality across multiple assembly facilities.

The Industrial/Manufacturing Engineer will focus on optimizing manufacturing processes, restructuring Bills of Materials (B.O.M.), developing work instructions, balancing assembly lines, and implementing lean manufacturing improvements. This role requires strong technical acumen, analytical ability, and a deep understanding of production operations within a heavy equipment or automotive environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and restructure design engineering Bills of Materials (B.O.M.) through operations coding and parts grouping.

  • Develop assembly B.O.M. and work instructions to support multiple production areas and facilities.

  • Prepare detailed process documentation and ensure continuous improvement of existing assembly methods.

  • Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and assigned technical tasks in accordance with Oshkosh Corporation’s engineering standards.

  • Identify and design process improvements to enhance safety, quality, and productivity.

  • Determine appropriate assembly fixtures, plant layouts, and workstations to optimize manufacturing space.

  • Establish manpower requirements, sub-assembly balancing data, and time performance standards.

  • Support multiple projects simultaneously, providing technical assistance and guidance.

  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to streamline production processes and reduce waste.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams internally and externally, including suppliers, to ensure operational efficiency.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 1–2+ years of experience in industrial, mechanical, or manufacturing engineering.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in heavy equipment manufacturing or automotive industry.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Lean and Six Sigma principles.

  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data management and reporting.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interpret technical procedures, manuals, and government regulations.

  • Capable of making independent decisions within established guidelines and adapting existing processes to new challenges.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Frequent standing, walking, sitting, hearing, and typing; occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.

  • Environment: On-site manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to temperature variations, noise, and dust.

  • Work Schedule: Routine day shift hours, occasional overtime or weekends as required.

  • Demands: Moderate to high workload with variable project demands and deadlines.
