Description:
Howmet Aerospace is seeking an Entry-Level Manufacturing Engineer to support its Continuous Improvement Organization at the Whitehall, MI site. Working under the direction of the Lead Continuous Improvement Engineer, this position involves “boots on the ground” support to plan, implement, and follow through on manufacturing improvement initiatives across business units and manufacturing plants. The engineer collaborates with Operations Supervisors, Area Leads, and Plant Managers to enhance on-time delivery, productivity, quality, cost, safety, and environmental performance.
Key responsibilities include conducting shopfloor observations, performing time studies, eliminating non-value-added activities, reducing scrap, creating step-by-step procedures for equipment operations, participating in Kaizen events, and driving waste reduction using Lean principles such as JIT, Autonomation, Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Standard Work, Single Piece Flow, SMED, TPM, and Root Cause Problem Solving. The engineer also coordinates with internal departments, supports continuous improvement projects, and assists with implementation of solutions to increase efficiency and output.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with high energy and initiative
Willingness to spend time on the manufacturing shopfloor interacting with employees
Team-oriented with a go-getting attitude
Strong analytical and statistical problem-solving skills
Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship)
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
Exceptional skills in Excel, including spreadsheets, macros, and data analysis
