Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) is seeking Chemical Engineering Interns and Co-ops for Summer 2026 at its El Paso, TX refinery and other U.S. refinery locations. Interns will gain hands-on experience in refinery operations, process optimization, and environmental compliance while working alongside professional engineers in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support refinery operations by applying chemical engineering fundamentals to process and technical challenges.

• Conduct process calculations, test runs, and catalyst/adsorbent monitoring to optimize performance.

• Work on projects involving process modeling, data validation, and operational economics.

• Assist with environmental compliance efforts and exposure to regulations applicable to refinery processes.

• Prepare technical reports and presentations for engineering teams and management.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

Possible Work Areas:

• Process/Technical Services: Process optimization and performance analysis.

• Operations Research: Modeling and scheduling refinery production.

• Environmental Engineering: Compliance and environmental monitoring projects.

• Products Control/Economics: Blending, operations, and economic analysis.

Qualifications:

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (must be enrolled in a degree program).

• Strong academic record and analytical problem-solving skills.

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

• Valid driver’s license required.

• Availability for multiple co-op or internship terms preferred.

• Military experience is a plus.
