Description:
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) is seeking Chemical Engineering Interns and Co-ops for Summer 2026 at its El Paso, TX refinery and other U.S. refinery locations. Interns will gain hands-on experience in refinery operations, process optimization, and environmental compliance while working alongside professional engineers in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support refinery operations by applying chemical engineering fundamentals to process and technical challenges.
Conduct process calculations, test runs, and catalyst/adsorbent monitoring to optimize performance.
Work on projects involving process modeling, data validation, and operational economics.
Assist with environmental compliance efforts and exposure to regulations applicable to refinery processes.
Prepare technical reports and presentations for engineering teams and management.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Possible Work Areas:
Process/Technical Services: Process optimization and performance analysis.
Operations Research: Modeling and scheduling refinery production.
Environmental Engineering: Compliance and environmental monitoring projects.
Products Control/Economics: Blending, operations, and economic analysis.
Qualifications:
Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (must be enrolled in a degree program).
Strong academic record and analytical problem-solving skills.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
Valid driver’s license required.
Availability for multiple co-op or internship terms preferred.
Military experience is a plus.
