Engineering Intern

Description:

Marvell Technology, a global leader in semiconductor solutions, is offering an exciting opportunity for a PhD-level Analog Engineer Intern to join its Optical PHY (CE-OPHY) team based in Irvine, California. This team focuses on designing high-speed and optical transceivers that power modern communication infrastructure for long-haul, metro, and data center applications.

At Marvell, interns are empowered to contribute to groundbreaking innovations that connect the world — from enterprise and cloud systems to AI, automotive, and carrier networks. This internship is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about analog design, data conversion, and cutting-edge communication technologies to gain real-world experience alongside industry experts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, simulate, and verify analog circuit blocks for advanced optical transceivers.

  • Collaborate with layout engineers to implement and refine analog designs.

  • Participate in the testing, characterization, and optimization of existing circuits.

  • Conduct system-level and behavioral modeling to support design validation.

  • Apply knowledge of signal processing and analog design fundamentals to solve practical engineering challenges.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must be currently pursuing a PhD (preferred) or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of analog integrated circuit design fundamentals.

  • Research or major project experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Data conversion circuits (ADCs, DACs)

    • High-speed analog front-ends (CTLEs, VGAs, TAH/SAH)

    • Clock conditioning circuits (PLLs, DLLs, Phase Interpolators)

  • Experience in behavioral modeling using Verilog-A or SystemVerilog.

  • Programming proficiency in C, Python, and MATLAB, preferably in a UNIX environment.

  • Familiarity with signal processing fundamentals.

  • Hands-on experience using CAD tools and simulators such as Cadence Virtuoso and Spectre.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Hourly Pay: USD 31 – 61 per hour (based on qualifications, skills, and market conditions).

  • Benefits for Interns Include:

    • Medical, dental, and vision coverage

    • Paid holidays and volunteer days

    • Paid sick time

    • Access to wellness and mental health support programs (including coaching and therapy)

    • Perks and employee discount programs

    • Additional compensation opportunities for PhD-level candidates
