Description:
The Senior SMT Engineer will support quick-turn manufacturing requirements and lead continuous improvement efforts within Qorvo’s GO Prototype Assembly organization. The role is hands-on and includes engineering reviews, SMT stencil ordering, equipment programming, monitoring assembly processes, and optimizing cycle time, quality, safety, and cost. The engineer will also support new product introduction (NPI), preventive maintenance, and cross-functional teams while ensuring manufacturable processes and smooth equipment operation.
Conduct Engineering Reviews and manage stencil ordering for all Assembly Orders
Configure complex DOE layouts and equipment programming before AO start
Own preventive maintenance routines for SMT equipment
Lead continual improvement projects using LEAN methodologies
Own SMT process documentation, control plans, and FMEAs
Monitor assembly processes to identify bottlenecks, downtime, and throughput issues
Support transitions from product development to manufacturable processes
Collaborate with PKG team, equipment suppliers, and cross-functional teams
Lead 8D and corrective action initiatives for mis-processed products
Recommend new equipment and materials, including documentation and training
Communicate technical issues clearly to Engineering and Production Control
Participate in hands-on assembly floor work, meetings, and desk-based engineering tasks
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
5+ years SMT process and equipment experience
Familiarity with:
ASM SiPlace equipment & software
ASM DEK screen printing solder/flux
BTU ovens and inline wash processes
DLT processes and multi-chip module assembly
CA68 format PCB/laminates
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with MS Project, JMP, and production control software is a plus
Ability to work safely in manufacturing environments
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Able to make independent decisions and work under pressure
Willing to work off-shifts when needed
Occasional travel required
