At Securian Financial the internal position title is Engineering Mgr* Position Overview As the application owner of My Account and Channel Partner websites within Individual Solutions Technology, you will lead a team of technologists focused on customer experience and business outcomes for our My Account and Channel Partner websites, systems and functions through modernization, innovation and capability development. The My Account and Channel Partner Application Owner for the Individual Solutions technology function: Delivers exceptional experiences through advancement of technology strategy and delivery of platform capabilities. Participates in the establishment of strategic technology platform direction in partnership and alignment with Enterprise Technology, organizational, and business initiatives.

Ensures the development, implementation, security, maintenance, and support of a technology platform(s). Synthesizes market needs related to a specific platform or set of related platforms, prioritizes needs, researches trends and platform options, discusses advancement with business areas, and collaborates with agile scrum teams to deliver those capabilities. Operates with a collaborative business focused mindset. Establishes and aligns operating processes and performance metrics and delivers measurable outcomes related to continuous improvement of platform capabilities. Responsibilities include but not limited to: Delivers customer-centric solutions focused on improving or enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement of the My Account and Channel Partner websites and related digital capabilities. Engages with Business Owners, Product Owners, and User Experience to understand the context and synthesized market needs that drive the platform capabilities; partners to ensure alignment across markets and business units. Understands key business objectives and strategy and works closely with the Product Owner(s)/Business Leader(s) in meeting business objectives and delivering measurable outcomes. Leads the technical strategy for the modernization of the My Account and Channel Partner platform throughout its lifecycle and drives or significantly contributes to the realization of measurable outcomes and delivering value. Manages technical platform roadmap and related applications including internally developed systems or vendor packages and ensures alignment with Enterprise Technology operating principles. Defines Minimum Viable Product technical features and needs for new capabilities; utilizes agile mindset including rapid iteration and evolvement of platform features based on business user and market feedback. Directs team of technical leads, engineers, and test automation engineers to execute on enhancing platform capabilities. Develops and maintains an effective team, which includes staffing, motivating, training, counseling, managing performance, and growing and developing team members. Develops processes with agile at scale and automation in mind. Promotes the teams' focus on the highest value initiatives and that those initiatives align with platform, market, and technology strategy. Liaises with technology leaders across platforms/tribes/squads to align technology and strategies and collaborates on opportunities to increases the effectiveness and efficiency of technology/platform operations. Actively involved in business planning, budgeting, and high-level demand and supply management as it relates to the platform. Responsible for ensuring team maintains high quality solutions to reduce risk and minimize downtime. Directs assessment, research, selection, and implementation of new strategic or process platform-related opportunities in partnership with Business Owners, Product Owners, and User Experience and ensures successful recommendations and/or implementation of new projects. Proactively evaluates technology options and promotes solutions that align with business and technology operating principles, shared solutions/COEs, and architectures. Incorporates security, compliance, and privacy by design in development and maintenance of the platform. Actively works to rationalize number of discrete applications in the platform such that they achieve or align with Enterprise Technology operating principles Qualifications: Strong coaching/mentoring skills, with a demonstrated ability to develop talent in others Experience in web design, customer engagement and modernization efforts from a business or technical perspective along with greater than 3 years of experience in the insurance and/or financial services industries and/or notable experience implementing and maintain the technologies that support those specific business areas. Relevant technical experience with cloud solutions and integration platforms including the use of web services and APIs focusing on customer experience, performance, security, and how those solutions interrelate with other internal/external systems or solutions. Experience driving results in an Agile environment Experience understanding data strategy or governance as it relates to technology platforms Experience in technical platform management, business analysis, application development, process improvement, and/or technical team leadership. Ability to build productive relationships and collaborate with business partners, vendors, and other stakeholders. Communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills to connect and engage platform team as well as negotiate with business and technology areas. Ability to prioritize projects and work efforts and align platform demand and supply. Knowledge of methodologies for strategic planning, project management, and systems development. Creative and innovative mindset with the ability to drive to outcomes. Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and schedules, handle multiple issues simultaneously, ability to work with ambiguity, and to manage stressful situations. Awareness of current industry trends and new technologies; desire and willingness to continuously improve those skills and knowledge through internal and external continuous learning. If you're in a commutable distance (90 minutes) you'll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules. When working in our offices at least two days per week isn't feasible (vacations, illness, travel, etc.), an eight day per month standard is an option.
