Description:

The Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) is seeking a qualified English Teacher to serve at its Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility in Massillon, Ohio. This is a full-time, on-site role offering a $5,000 signing incentive for new hires.

As part of DYS’s education program, you will work with small groups of students (6–8 youth), aged 16–18, within a structured and supportive environment. Your mission will be to assess educational needs, develop tailored lesson plans, and deliver English instruction that promotes both academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate student educational needs and design individualized lesson plans to meet them

  • Deliver classroom instruction in English Language Arts with individual attention and guidance

  • Provide academic counseling and behavioral support to students

  • Monitor or assist with extracurricular activities as needed

  • Maintain a positive, trauma-responsive learning environment

  • Support curriculum development and educational program improvement

  • Utilize modern educational technologies and resources

Schedule & Work Conditions:

  • Full-time, 40 hours/week

  • No lunch/study hall supervision duties

  • 186 student days per year with 40 days of intersession leave

  • Paid personal and sick leave

  • Comprehensive onboarding and training provided

Education & Salary Structure:

  • Teacher 1: Bachelor’s degree or less – Starting salary $66,726

  • Teacher 2: Bachelor’s + 20 quarter hours (less than Master’s)

  • Teacher 3: Master’s degree

  • Teacher 4: Master’s degree + 30 post-grad hours

  • Note: Teaching certificate/license must be successfully obtained before employment
