Description:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager at nLIGHT DEFENSE Systems will lead the execution of the company’s EHS policies, programs, and culture at the Longmont, CO facility. Reporting to the corporate Sr. EHS Manager, this role provides leadership to develop and maintain world-class team-based safety and environmental programs consistent with legal and regulatory requirements.

The EHS Manager will serve as the subject matter expert for EHS compliance, employee safety training, hazard identification and elimination, and regulatory reporting. They will foster a positive safety culture by collaborating closely with leadership and employees across shifts, leading safety committees, managing audits and risk assessments, and overseeing emergency response readiness.


Key Responsibilities:

EHS Policy & Management

  • Promote awareness and compliance with nLIGHT DEFENSE Systems’ EHS policy.

  • Ensure EHS policy aligns with regulatory requirements; report nonconformances.

  • Develop and improve EHS programs, training, and procedures in coordination with global sites.

Training & Compliance

  • Conduct and coordinate employee safety training on HAZCOM, PPE, fire protection, confined space, fall protection, machine guarding, electrical safety, lockout/tagout, laser safety, and more.

  • Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and self-assessments to ensure compliance with OSHA and other standards.

  • Conduct safety inspections and follow up on corrective actions.

  • Provide ergonomics assessments and oversee hazardous materials handling and disposal.

  • Lead Safety Committee meetings and manage Emergency Response Teams, including drills.

Reporting & Investigation

  • Prepare and submit monthly EHS scorecards and OSHA logs timely.

  • Lead or participate in incident investigations, identifying root causes and corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with Workers’ Compensation adjusters for claims management.

Product Safety & Laser Safety

  • Support quality, environmental, and engineering teams on product safety compliance.

  • Serve as Laser Safety Officer, maintaining expertise and reviewing laser SOPs.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Science, or related field.

  • Minimum 10 years EHS experience, preferably in high-technology manufacturing.

  • Proven track record in hazard elimination and employee safety engagement.

  • Strong regulatory knowledge and training experience with Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tagout, Laser Safety, Forklift Safety, Machine Guarding, Hazard Communication, and related programs.

  • Ability to work flexible schedules and interact with employees across shifts.

  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to implement EHS programs in fast-paced environments and handle complex situations effectively.
