Environmental Test Engineer

 

Description:

Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking a hands-on Environmental Test Engineer to design and execute rigorous environmental testing on defense-related products. The engineer will ensure robustness and reliability under extreme conditions such as temperature, vibration, humidity, and pressure. This role contributes directly to mission readiness and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Test Development and Execution: Develop and implement environmental, mechanical, and electrical test procedures. Operate environmental test equipment (thermal chambers, vibration systems, instrumentation). Conduct shock, vibration, thermal, humidity, salt fog, and solar testing. Collaborate with third-party labs as needed.

  • Test Analysis and Reporting: Analyze test data for accuracy and compliance, troubleshoot issues, and prepare detailed test reports.

  • Process Improvement and Collaboration: Identify improvements to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency. Develop long-term capital purchase plans. Mentor junior engineers and participate in test readiness reviews, white papers, and proposals.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in environmental testing for DoD contracts or similar fields.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in developing and executing environmental test plans and procedures.

  • Knowledge of relevant environmental test standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461).

  • Active US Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with environmental test equipment such as Temperature-Humidity chambers, Electromechanical shaker systems.

  • Familiarity with NI data acquisition systems and LabVIEW software.

  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461G.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environments.

  • Capable of climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and tolerating extreme temperature variances.
