The Successful Candidate:
- Active news consumer with clear understanding of importance of multi-platform approach to getting news to the audience where they are.
- Strong communication skills.
- Enjoys teaching and coaching great storytelling.
- Excellent editorial judgment and writing skills.
- Committed to objectivity, journalistic standards and ethics.
- Clear and thorough understanding of copyright, libel, defamation and other legal standards related to content and scripting.
- Ability to line produce shows if needed.
- Understands the 24-7 nature of news, available to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Positive attitude, capable problem-solver.
- Bachelor's Degree in journalism or related field.
- Minimum 5 years experience in major market newsroom, 3 years in management preferred.
- Working knowledge of iNews, Xpression, Ross Overdrive and Tagboard a plus.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Supervise/QC late newscasts on WJLA and WJLA 24/7.
- Coach team on “producing up” shows with strong graphics, breakouts and showcasing content you won't see on our competitors.
- Collaborate with digital team on getting important content out on all platforms throughout the shift.
- Edit and approve reporter scripts and anchor reads.
- Coordinate with scheduling managers to make sure nightside team is properly staffed.
- Produce special coverage and other projects as needed.
- Rotating weekend on-call schedule.
