Description:
Loan Originators are responsible for sourcing bridge loans and long-term fixed-rate loans when practical, primarily through mortgage brokers and direct sponsor relationships if applicable. This role requires deep existing industry relationships, aggressive outreach and follow-up, strong commercial real estate analytical experience, a deep understanding of commercial real estate markets, thoughtful loan structuring experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation includes a competitive annual salary (commensurate with experience), a market commission structure, and an attractive benefits package, including a 401 (k) match.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Loan Origination: Source, qualify, and conduct initial underwriting; structure and quote loans; prepare/present preliminary credit memorandums to internal committee; negotiate term sheets and win financing assignments; manage borrowers’ expectations throughout the loan closing process
- Business Development: Develop new relationships to source CRE loans through direct marketing, including referrals, market visits, conferences, phone calls, email marketing, and more. Preference to have origination staff go out on target market roadshows occasionally to meet mortgage brokers live.
- CRM: Utilize Salesforce to manage contacts and interactions with intermediaries and direct sponsors. Develop custom marketing strategies for CRM coverage.
- Company Relations: Develop internal relationships with company’s closing team (credit, asset management, legal & servicing departments).
- Travel: Travel for marketing visits, conferences, and site inspections.
REQUISITES
- 5+ years of proven experience in originating and structuring commercial real estate bridge loans in various asset classes
- Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced education certification and/or designation preferred
- Established relationships with intermediaries and individual/institutional property owners
- Possesses a fundamental understanding of the commercial real estate market and finance
- Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis, with strong hands-on knowledge and abilities in Excel and/or other CRE analytical tools (CoStar, Trepp, Real Capital Analytics, etc.)
- Strong analytical skills, aptitude, and experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment
- Highly motivated individual with a strong, disciplined work ethic
- Strong competency in property types, including office, industrial, retail, multi-family, self-storage & student housing
