UPMC Hamot, a Magnet-designated hospital, is seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) to join its Med-Surg units in Erie, PA. Available Med-Surg Units at UPMC Hamot:

  • Observation/Short Stay Acute Care (3 South): 23-bed unit for adult patients requiring continued stabilization post-ED visit or procedures.

  • Trauma & Orthopedic Acute Care (4 South): 23-bed unit caring for trauma patients (motor vehicle accidents, gunshot/stabbing victims, fall injuries) and those with bone-related conditions.

  • Medical Respiratory Intermediate Unit (MRIU): Step-down unit for trauma and respiratory patients requiring higher-level care such as Bipap, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, dialysis, and tracheostomy management.

  • Transitional Support Unit (4 North): 11-bed unit for stable patients awaiting discharge; ideal for nurses exploring hospital-based care.

  • Cardiac Acute Care Unit (5 South): 46-bed telemetry unit for patients with coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, AMI, CHF, and post-cardiac procedure recovery.

  • Cardiovascular, Renal Transplant & Surgical Specialty Acute Care (6 South): 43-bed unit caring for cardiothoracic, vascular, bariatric surgery, and transplant patients.

  • Medical/Oncology Acute Care Unit (7 South): 46-bed oncology-focused unit offering chemotherapy, transfusions, pain management, wound care, and step-down beds.

  • Neurology & Neurosurgical Acute Care (8 South): 20-bed unit providing care for stroke, seizures, MS, neurosurgical procedures, and epilepsy monitoring.

  • Colorectal & Urology Acute Care (8 East): 23-bed unit for surgical and medical patients including colorectal, general surgery, neurosurgery, and urology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply the nursing process to deliver patient-centered care in a Relationship-Based Care framework.

  • Provide comprehensive teaching and support to patients and families throughout hospitalization and discharge planning.

  • Demonstrate strong clinical judgment in identifying medical, psychological, and social needs.

  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary care teams, patients, and families.

  • Serve as a preceptor and support the development of students, new nurses, and peers.

  • Actively contribute to unit-based quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.

  • Maintain professional accountability, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to ongoing professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license (required).

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (required).

  • BSN preferred.

  • Certifications:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) – required within 30 days of hire.

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

    • Basic Cardiac Dysrhythmia Interpretation.

    • Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
