Facilities Project Manager

 

Description:

  • Assists in oversees planning, design, and construction projects for designated specialty area(s) and ensures all WUSM Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection and Construction Standards are upheld.
  • Works closely and continuously with OFMD leadership as well as senior leadership of designated specialty area(s) and OFMD team members to ensure seamless campus project integration and construction. Works with the OFMD space intake coordinator to manage and vet all requests for designated specialty area.
  • Assists in implementing departmental policies and guidelines associated with the Physical Planning and Project Delivery Process for his/her areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinates communication, planning, and project implementation. Closes out projects in a timely manner, including collection of as-builts, warranty tracking, O&M manuals and final project cost information. Provides consulting and problem-solving support to Facilities Operations on all completed projects under his/her responsibility.
  • Partners with OFMD team members in planning initiatives including facilities renewal items, renovations and/or new construction.
  • Serves as a mentor and an advisor to the Project Managers. Provides direction and advice on project details as required.
  • Supports five year capital planning process including representation for their assigned area, five year plan development, needs identification and cost estimating, as applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business or applicable specialty area.
  • Architectural or Engineering licensure.
  • Strong writing, presentation, Excel, financial, facilitation, negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Planning or Project Management Certification or equivalent.
  • Exceptional integrity, intelligence, and maturity. Must be well-rounded in complex organizational environments and be comfortable operating in a university or academic medical center setting.
  • A proven track record of creative and energetic problem-solving and demonstrated ability to identify and implement innovative approaches to facility management issues/initiatives.
  • Team-oriented, comfortable making difficult decisions, following through to completion, and applying sound fiscal policy and accountability.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills, disciplined, and diplomatic knowledge of research and teaching space facility and utilization requirements a plus.
  • Experience in developing and utilizing performance indicators for organizational assessments and improvement.
  • Well-versed in the full spectrum of planning and project management from concepts to post-occupancy and beyond.
  • Strong desire for/thrive on continuous professional betterment and development and continuous improvement of project delivery services.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate in a faced paced environment with tight completion time frames.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in MS Office suite including spreadsheets and databases in a Windows environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, architecture, engineering, or related field from an accredited four year college or university.
  • Four years of experience.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
