Description:
Hunt Leadership Search, on behalf of its client—a major privately held company with significant real estate interests in Orange County—is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join their growing tax team. Reporting directly to the Tax Director, this role offers the opportunity to oversee tax compliance and planning services, manage a team of tax staff, and contribute to strategic projects aimed at minimizing tax exposure while ensuring compliance with evolving tax regulations.
The Tax Manager will be responsible for the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax returns, including operating partnerships, real estate partnerships, and S-Corps. The role will also involve overseeing external tax service providers, conducting tax research, developing tax strategies, and ensuring adherence to deadlines while managing workflows and structured team processes. The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and skilled at both managing people and communicating effectively with senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage tax compliance and planning services, including review of partnership and S-Corp tax returns.
Oversee work performed by outside tax service providers.
Respond to federal, state, and local tax inquiries and audit requests.
Conduct tax research and develop strategies to reduce the company’s tax burden.
Lead, mentor, and develop tax staff; participate in recruitment, performance reviews, and training.
Manage workflow efficiently, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
Implement process improvements and adopt new tax technology tools.
Build strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders through effective communication.
Maintain effective controls over the tax process and ensure compliance with new rules and regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Tax (Master’s in Tax preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of tax compliance and consulting experience.
Managerial experience required.
CPA or EA license.
Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks under strict deadlines.
Experience with tax issues related to partnerships and S-Corps.
Previous Big 4 or large CPA firm experience highly valued; industry experience a plus.
Familiarity with Thomas Reuters One Source Tax software.
Proficiency with data analytics and RPA tools (e.g., Alteryx, UI Path, Power Pivot).
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
