The Department of Economic Security, Division of Aging and Adult Services, seeks an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Financial Exploitation Investigator 2 with the Financial Exploitation Unit. DAAS supports at-risk Arizonans to meet their basic needs and to live safely, with dignity and independence. Services and programs reach a diverse population of Arizonans.
You will investigate allegations of financial fraud and exploitation of vulnerable or incapacitated adults, 18 years of age or older. You interview victims, alleged perpetrators, witnesses, and collateral third parties to gather evidence and establish the chain of events leading to the alleged fraud/exploitation. You write detailed investigative reports. You may work with law enforcement and/or prosecutors to discuss findings as required.

  • Analyze all financial data and documents gathered from clients, family members, alleged perpetrators and other relevant third parties.
  • Prepare financial spreadsheets. Write detailed investigative reports outlining investigation findings and covering all aspects of the financial accounts and records examination in accordance with established procedures and formats.
  • Investigate allegations of financial fraud and exploitation of vulnerable or incapacitated adults, aged 18 years of age or older.
  • Interview victims, alleged perpetrators, witnesses and collateral third parties to gather evidence & establish chain of events leading to the alleged fraud/exploitation.
  • Accounting principles, practices, and procedures and auditing financial records
  • State statutes governing investigation of financial exploitation (Title 46-Welfare) and financial investigation techniques and methods
  • Administrative hearing process
  • General banking procedures and different forms of financial exploitation
  • Oral and written communication including writing reports
  • Conducting effective interviews of witnesses and subjects
  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
  • Using a variety of computer software packages (e.g., Excel, Word, Google Suite, etc.)
  • Make appropriate decisions in high stress situations and exercise proper judgment and behavior
  • De-escalate volatile situations
  • Prepare documents for and testify at court or administrative venuesdaashr
  • Flexibility in willingness to work longer shift hours or after-hours coverage, if necessary.
  • Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Child Protective Services Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.
  • A.R.S. 41-1968 Employee shall have a valid, unrestricted Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-1758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults, prior to the start of their employment.
  • Extensive in-state travel is required. The position will require the possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11). Individuals may be required to use their personal motor vehicle in rare situations.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.
  • Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
