EY (Ernst & Young) is seeking an experienced and motivated Tax Manager to join its Financial Services Organization (FSO) in the Banking and Capital Markets (BCM) division based in Chicago, IL. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at one of the world’s most trusted professional services firms, specializing in serving the financial services sector across banking, capital markets, wealth management, insurance, and real estate.

As a Tax Manager, you will lead client engagements with major multinational financial institutions, overseeing tax operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and managing teams to deliver high-quality results. You will play a key role in developing tax strategies, advising clients on complex issues, and helping them navigate the evolving landscape of financial taxation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple client engagements, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality tax deliverables.

  • Lead and mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing.

  • Oversee engagement economics, including budgets, billing, and resource planning.

  • Develop tax technical positions and provide expert advice on compliance, tax planning, and accounting matters.

  • Work closely with clients to understand their operations and tailor tax solutions to meet their business needs.

  • Conduct tax research and analysis related to federal, state, and international taxation.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and potential areas for expanding client services.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry professionals, and EY internal teams.

  • Support initiatives for information reporting, withholding, and risk management.


Skills and Attributes for Success

  • Strong knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and Treasury Regulations relevant to financial services clients.

  • Ability to synthesize information quickly and provide practical, results-oriented solutions.

  • Deep understanding of tax compliance forms and their interactions across state and local jurisdictions.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to mentoring and developing team members.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in the banking or financial services sector.

  • Active CPA license or licensed Attorney.

  • Strong exposure to federal income taxation and regulatory reporting for financial institutions.

  • Experience managing teams and engagements.

  • SEC tax experience is a plus.
