Description:

NWIFC is seeking a full-time, exempt Policy Analyst for Forest and Agricultural Practices. This position is integral to the Environmental Protection team and involves the direct and indirect supervision of 5 staff members. The Policy Analyst will play a key role in facilitating tribal homeland and treaty resource protection priorities affected by activities in forested and agricultural landscapes.

The successful candidate will coordinate and support tribal implementation of the Timber-Fish-Wildlife (TFW) Agreement and the Forest and Fish Report (FFR), working closely with state, federal, and private forest management and agricultural land use issues. This role includes policy coordination, intergovernmental communication, and providing overall support to tribal participation in TFW/FFR activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and support tribal homeland and treaty resource protection priorities in relation to forested and agricultural landscapes.

  • Coordinate tribal implementation of the TFW Agreement and FFR, and assist with developing and implementing a tribal work agenda.

  • Establish and maintain statewide communication to support tribal participation in TFW/FFR implementation.

  • Serve as the tribal representation on the FFR Policy Committee and coordinate responses to policy matters.

  • Provide policy coordination and communication with federal, state, and private entities regarding forest and agricultural issues that affect tribal resources and recovery goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Administration, Legal, or a related field, plus 7 years of recent work experience in regional and tribal habitat protection programs, or a Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of experience.

  • 1+ years of supervisory experience.

  • Detailed knowledge of Western WA Tribe’s resource management issues.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and writing skills.

  • Experience with policy and strategic development, intergovernmental communication, meeting facilitation, and coordination.
