CHS Inc., a leading global agribusiness owned by farmers, ranchers, and cooperatives across the United States, is seeking a Grain Originator Intern to join its team in Mitchell, South Dakota. CHS plays a vital role in connecting producers with agricultural markets worldwide, providing essential grain, food, and energy solutions to sustain and empower agriculture globally.
This internship provides a hands-on learning experience designed to give students exposure to the grain origination process and agribusiness operations. As a Grain Originator Intern, you will have the opportunity to work directly with producers and internal teams to procure grain, analyze markets, and support efficient operations that enhance CHS’s overall business performance.
You will learn how to interact with farmers, understand grain marketing strategies, and gain real-world insights into commodity trading, logistics, and contract management. This position offers a dynamic, fast-paced learning environment, ideal for students pursuing agricultural or business-related degrees who are eager to develop both technical and interpersonal skills in the field of agribusiness.
Assist with grain origination by calling on local producers and securing grain purchases.
Learn to manage and maintain relationships with producers, updating them on market trends, grain quotes, and marketing programs.
Help prepare, review, and process grain purchasing contracts accurately and efficiently.
Support the Grain Originator in rail billing, grain sales settlements, and related documentation.
Collaborate with elevator and office staff to streamline information exchange and improve grain flow operations.
Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a professional, courteous demeanor when interacting with patrons.
Participate in additional tasks and special projects as assigned to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business.
Minimum Requirements:
Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Agriculture, Ag Business, or Crop Science.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience or background knowledge in agriculture, crop, or grain handling is advantageous.
Previous internship experience in an agribusiness environment preferred but not mandatory.
Familiarity with marketing or sales concepts will be considered an asset.
Internship begins as early as Spring 2026 and may extend through Summer 2026, depending on availability and business needs.
Competitive hourly pay ranging from $15 to $21 per hour, based on education, skills, and experience.
