Description:
Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
GS-7:
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. You qualify for the GS-7 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-6 (or equivalent) grade level in the Federal government, performing the following duties: processing personnel actions, coding and documenting personnel actions through the Federal Personnel Payroll Systems (FPPS) or other required personnel management systems; managing employee records (Official Personnel Folders) electronic and hard copy; supporting Human Resource (HR) Specialists and team members with staffing and recruitment actions; conducting new employee orientation; processing payroll and personnel forms; and preparing regular and special personnel reports.
GS-8:
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. You qualify for the GS-8 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-7 (or equivalent) grade level in the Federal government, performing the following duties: processing personnel actions, coding and documenting personnel actions through the Federal Personnel Payroll Systems (FPPS) or other required personnel management systems; troubleshoots and corrects errors in pay related matters; provides technical advice and assistance to employees, HR Specialists and team members regarding pay problems; managing employee and HR records (Official Personnel Folders, staffing case files, other HR documentation and records, hard copy and electronic); and extracts data from payroll and personnel systems and runs regular and ad hoc reports in support of HR team, management or customer requests and quality control efforts.
