Description:
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for a comprehensive suite of Human Resources program areas for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Texas. You will serve as a Human Resources Assistant for an organization of administrative/legal professionals and attorneys Typical work assignments will include:
- Processes a wide range of personnel actions within various functional areas of personnel management for assigned service areas.
- Responds to applicants, visitors, and/or telephone callers interested in obtaining employment.
- Processes new employees and conducts orientation sessions on such matters as health benefits, life insurance, thrift savings, retirement and military service credit, and deposits/redeposits owed.
- Reviews, processes and resolves problems/discrepancies relative to personnel actions.
- Collects information for employees and managers/supervisors on employee benefits, and answers questions regarding entitlements.
- Assembles background investigation packages.
- Establishes and maintains a variety of personnel files.
- Uses various software programs to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print a variety of documents.
- Works from rough drafts, documents, written instructions, or brief oral statements.
- Routinely interacts with employees and applicants to assist with personnel actions, answer questions, and resolve problems.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
