Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages a current and prospective donor portfolio for gifts ranging from $1,500 - $5,000, with particular focus on increasing engagement and giving within this donor group. Identifies and qualifies donors with capacity to give beyond current giving levels.
  • Creates and implements strategies for securing annual support in conjunction with Director of Individual Giving.
  • Develops strong relationships between the museum and its donors through personal outreach and by responding quickly and efficiently to donor inquiries and special requests; facilitates contact between donors and other areas of the museum.
  • Composes effective, personalized written gift solicitations for gifts ranging from $1,500 - $5,000. Collaborates with staff and volunteers to ensure appropriate follow-up communications and tracks progress closely. Writes and oversees production of other printed materials, including gift acknowledgements, invitation copy, articles for museum publications and promotional materials.
  • Supports peer-based solicitations as needed, including generating prospect lists, creating volunteer toolkits and preparing solicitation materials. Provide support to the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees as needed.
  • Participates in budget development and manages project budget for areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborates on gift acknowledgements, oversees fulfillment of benefits, donor stewardship and recognition for gift portfolio.
  • In consultation with Special Events staff and Major Gifts team, plans and implements events to support donor stewardship needs and fulfill membership benefit obligations. Support and staff other Development events as needed.
  • Maintain relevant donor information in Development database Tessitura, including donor biographies, prospect research, and meeting notes. Works with Donor Services team to ensure accuracy of donor records, including donor moves management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with Board members, key donors, community leaders, executives, management, employees, and/or the public.
  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, arts, business administration, or the equivalent education/experience.
  • 3-5 years of previous Development experience in a nonprofit setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and to project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise using a wide range of MS Office products including Word, Excel, Project, Access and other software applications. Must be savvy in using the internet as a tool for research. Experience with Tessitura desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work well under pressure, with excellent time management, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand financial reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers, the public, and co-workers professionally and tactfully, represent the museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to Museum policies, and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure: Work areas are primarily inside, in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise. Work is occasionally performed at other indoor and outdoor sites.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Stationary Work: Approximately 80% of time is spent stationary while working at a desk. Balance of time (approximately 20%) is spent moving around the work area. Occasional extended periods of standing may be required when assisting at Museum events.
Communication: Clear and effective communication with volunteers, donors, members, the public, and co-workers is necessary.
Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use the computer screens.
Moving: The ability to move up to twenty pounds on occasion is necessary for moving files, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to regularly position self to access files.
Office Work: Ability to effectively and regularly operate a computer, keyboard, and other office productivity machinery, such as copy machines and printers, and ability to inspect, prepare and use paperwork, files, equipment, and supplies is necessary.
