Instructional Designer

 

Description:

The Instructional Designer for MTSU Online will report to the Chief Online Learning Officer; this position directly supports the University's strategic mission to grow quality online courses and programs as directed by the president; consult with and support faculty during the design, development, and evaluation of MTSU online courses and programs; stay current on online instructional research and developments in education and technology; using quality assurance standards, implement current best practices for improving online courses and programs. Responsible for accessibility checks to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in online courses and meet minimal standards set by ADA and WCAG compliance guidelines. The position will prepare faculty to instruct courses online following proven principles of andragogy, heutagogy, and pedagogy while serving as primary support to faculty as they facilitate high quality online learning experiences that are student engaging and effective.

Required Education

Master's degree required. A Bachelor's degree with at least five years of experience related to the job duties above may be considered in lieu of a master's degree

Required Related Experience

Three (3) years of extensive experience consulting with and training in course design, developing online courses or related experience required.

Desirable Related Experience

A terminal degree or Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, or closely related field. Demonstrated successful experience working with faculty or other subject matter experts to develop online courses and training. A minimum of five years in a higher education setting with experience in the administration of a learning management system. Advanced knowledge and experience in instructional design. Experience in online learning or curriculum development in a higher education setting. Familiarity with quality assurance tools and processes. Proficient management certification or documented expertise. Experience with graphic design, video and audio production, animation, virtual reality, or other advanced software tools for learning environments. Experience with technical writing or professional documentation.
