Investment Associate

 

Description:

The Investment Associate directly works with Portfolio Advisors and other wealth management partners in support of high net worth investment management clients. Responsibilities will include opening investment accounts, running performance reports, preparing materials for client review meetings, analyzing investment portfolios, providing research, managing special projects and presenting recommendations to Portfolio Advisors. This partner will also support risk and compliance requirements for the team by managing systems and communicating with other investment and risk management professionals throughout Northern Trust. To be successful in the role, the Investment Associate must be a selfless team player that is willing to take on responsibilities as assigned, even when beyond the scope of their job description, while maintaining a positive attitude in a fast paced, in-person work environment.

 

 

More specific activities of the role include:

Interacts with partners on a daily basis to receive and communicate information on all aspects of a client relationship or portfolio. Serves as a central point of reference within Northern Trust for information related to investment management client activity.

Anticipates and coordinates investment portfolio presentation materials, including research, development, printing and binding, for account review meetings with clients as directed by Portfolio Advisors.

Organizes and executes operational processes required to manage clients’ portfolios, such as end to end trade execution and settlement, including all follow up to back-office teams, discrepancy resolution, and client signatures and approvals.

Provides client coverage and monitors Portfolio Advisor desks when Advisors are unavailable. Responds to client inquiries for account information and initiates transactions requested by the client (i.e., re-register gift stock, remit proceeds, sell gifts, etc.).

Analyzes solutions to challenging problems using technical experience and judgment. Begins to proactively make recommendations to support the Portfolio Advisors.

Over time, expected to take on increasing responsibilities in day to day client management, including proactive outreach and attendance at client meetings.

Demonstrates engagement and enthusiasm for the investment discipline, proactively seeking opportunities to expand investment knowledge and raising opportunities to improve on processes, role and team.

Assists non-investment partners with requests. Takes on other duties as assigned based upon the needs of the wealth management team.

 

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or related field.

1-3 years of experience within the financial services industry at a private bank, registered investment advisor, or other wealth management firm is preferred.

Knowledge of investment products, services, and terminology, usually obtained through on the job training, are needed to prepare material for client meetings.

Proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat Pro with an ability to quickly master new systems and technology.

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are needed to meet deadlines and solve problems.

Willingness to learn and a stated interest in obtaining a CFA, CFP or other industry designation.

Explains complex information to others in straightforward language.
