Description:
Responsibilities
- Oversees the purchase of all Library materials, including books and serials. This includes all vendor and staff correspondence, as well as data entry and maintenance within the acquisitions module.
- Enters minimal records into OCLC via the acquisitions module when necessary.
- Serves as the PO Captain for the department.
- Assists cataloging team with the completion of copy cataloging for incoming gifts and purchases. Completes records in OCLC and attaches holdings, applies barcodes and labels, finishes processing.
- Completes some original cataloging of incoming materials that require it. Adds records to OCLC and completes local information and holdings.
- Provides reference services to the staff and public.
- Handles all commercial bindery needs, including determination of need, packaging, and communication with vendor, as well as updating of circulation records.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Must be able to work effectively in a team-centered environment and exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to prioritize, work with minimal supervision and deal with both public and staff in a professional manner.
- Must be extremely organized, accurate, and attentive to detail.
- Knowledge of art history, publishers, periodicals and reference sources essential.
- Must be familiar with the process of ordering books and periodicals.
- Familiarity with the functionality of a library catalog and acquisitions modules desired.
- Heavy lifting and reliable transportation are necessary.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in a related field preferred or an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- Public service or customer relations experience preferred.
- Some knowledge of cataloging principles desired.
- Previous employment in a library or museum desired.
