Description:

The Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis is seeking a Temporary Part-time Summer Lifeguard to join its Programs Division for the summer of 2025 (June–August). This role is essential for maintaining safety and ensuring a positive experience for pool users across Harris County Precinct One facilities. As a Lifeguard, the individual will be responsible for supervising aquatic activities, ensuring a safe and clean pool environment, and engaging directly with community members, especially youth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surveillance and Prevention: Monitor pool areas consistently to identify risks, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies.

  • Customer Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for pool guests by providing directions, answering questions, and assisting with pool-related needs.

  • Maintenance and Cleaning: Keep pool facilities clean and functional by maintaining equipment and reporting issues.

  • Training and Certification Maintenance: Stay current with certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding.

  • Administrative Tasks: Complete incident reports, participate in meetings, and assist with program-related documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in high school or hold a high school diploma (or equivalent).

  • At least 3 years of experience in aquatic or recreational youth programs.

  • Valid American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard Certification.

Essential Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in swimming techniques (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly).

  • High safety awareness and proactive emergency response capabilities.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and motivational skills.

  • Good physical fitness to perform water-related demonstrations and emergency rescues.

  • Adaptability to different learning styles and participant needs.

  • Strong organizational skills to track participant progress and class planning.

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Temporary part-time work from June to August 2025.

  • Operates daily around water with frequent noise exposure.

  • Schedule varies depending on program needs and assigned locations.

  • Involves physical activity and extended periods of standing, swimming, or teaching.
