Line Maintenance Mechanic

Description:

Bayer, a global leader in pharmaceuticals and life sciences, is seeking a skilled Line Maintenance Mechanic B to join its Final Product Manufacturing (FPM) department at the Berkeley, CA site. This role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and modification of plant facilities and equipment to ensure reliable operations and compliance with safety and quality standards.

The successful candidate will be accountable for executing preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, and supporting production operations in sterile filling, inspection, and packaging. This position demands technical expertise, strong teamwork, and the ability to work independently in a regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform scheduled predictive and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and project support for filling, inspection, and packaging equipment.

• Operate and maintain qualifications for executing manufacturing activities in B80 (Inspection & Packaging) and B81 (Sterile Filling Facility).

• Conduct line setup, gowning qualification, maintenance checkouts, and interventions.

• Complete work orders, maintain accurate records, and ensure daily maintenance schedule attainment.

• Collaborate with other maintenance crafts, including electrical, HVAC-R, instrumentation, and mechanics, to complete multi-craft work orders.

• Assess accuracy and suitability of mechanical PM procedures and provide improvement feedback.

• Communicate effectively with departments for scheduling and follow-up of activities.

• Provide technical input to system owners regarding equipment reliability and adverse trends.

• Assist plant engineers in troubleshooting and problem-solving mechanical issues.

• Support general tasks for HVAC/R, electrical, and instrumentation as needed.

• Adhere to company safety, environmental, and operational procedures at all times.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED plus minimum of 3 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience, OR completion of a 2-year technical program with at least 1 year of field experience.

• Strong troubleshooting skills with at least 2 years in industrial maintenance.

• Ability to read and understand P&ID diagrams, SOPs, and electrical diagrams.

• Experience with Process Control Systems (PCS), DCS, BAS.

• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with ability to work independently.

• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, HMI, PLC, MODA).

• Ability to safely work around hazardous chemicals, steam, pressurized systems, and moving machinery.

• Ability to lift ≤50 lbs., push/pull ≤350 lbs. with assistance, and perform repetitive physical tasks (stooping, climbing, crouching, kneeling).

• Must pass required eye exams and meet occupational/physical requirements.

• Willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and 10-hour shifts as needed.

Preferred:

• Proficiency in multiple trades (HVAC/R, plumbing, electrical, instrumentation).

• Experience with SAP.

• Hepatitis B vaccination recommended.

Work Schedule:

• Days: Tuesday – Saturday

• Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM PST

Compensation & Benefits:

• Union hourly rate of $50.36/hr.
