Description:
The Linux System Administrator (Level 2) is a core contributor responsible for the hands-on management, maintenance, and optimization of critical on-premises infrastructure. This role focuses on operational stability, execution of projects, automation of routine tasks, and providing reliable support for the organization's Red Hat and virtualized environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Manage and maintain the VMware HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure, performing routine tasks to ensure optimal performance and high availability.
- Linux Systems Operations: Configure, monitor, and actively troubleshoot Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers and environments. Serve as an escalation point for complex RHEL operational issues.
- Virtualization Support: Administer and maintain virtualization solutions using VMware vSphere and HPE SimpliVity platforms.
- Automation: Utilize scripting (e.g., Bash, Python) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet) to automate routine system administration and deployment tasks, improving operational efficiency.
- System Health Monitoring: Implement, maintain, and respond to alerts from monitoring and logging tools to ensure continuous system performance and proactively address issues.
- Backup & Recovery: Execute and manage established backup, restoration, and disaster recovery processes.
- Security & Patching: Conduct regular patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation across Linux environments following established security protocols.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with Development, Network, and other IT teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of IT systems.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience
One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology Related Positions Only:
- NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
- Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
- High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
- High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
- A relevant professional certification can be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in systems administration, with at least 2 years specifically supporting VMware HPE SimpliVity and production Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.

Technical Expertise
- Solid proficiency in RHEL/Linux operating systems, including system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with IBM AIX: The candidate should have hands-on experience with IBM AIX, including:
- Installing, configuring, and managing AIX operating systems on IBM Power Systems hardware
- Performing AIX system administration tasks, such as user management, file system management, and network configuration
- Troubleshooting AIX system issues, including error analysis and resolution
- Implementing AIX security features, such as access control, authentication, and encryption
- Managing AIX storage, including LVM, JFS, and NFS
- Utilizing AIX performance monitoring and tuning tools, such as nmon and topas
- Experience with AIX-specific commands, such as smitty and smit
- Familiarity with AIX virtualization technologies, such as WPARs and LPARs
- Strong working knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere) and hyperconverged infrastructure.
- Demonstrated proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible).
- Experience implementing and managing system monitoring tools.
- Familiarity with container concepts (Docker) and basic networking/storage principles.
