This assist with innovative educational programs, special projects, events, and campaigns to increase public understanding of organ and tissue donation and transplantation, particularly in underserved communities where there is the greatest need for transplants.

Responsibilities

  • Assess individual UUH Kidney and Liver transplant candidate’s community to facilitate events to raise awareness about living donation and assist patients with identification of individuals willing to consider living donation.
  • Collaborates with UUH Living Donor team to advocate for potential kidney or liver donors referred to UUH for evaluation and facilitate resolution of barriers to evaluation and living donor recovery surgery.
  • Assesses community needs to determined appropriate community based events and implement strategies for the promotion of Living Donation for specific target groups, including community services and businesses.
  • Assists in developing culturally sensitive, literacy and age appropriate Living Donor and Transplant education materials and presents this information to a variety of target audiences throughout Utah and the Intermountain West.
  • Coordinates and oversees the distribution of UUH Living Donation and Transplant information to the public to raise awareness about UUH Living Donor Program.
  • Maintains and seeks out new contacts in the community that may facilitate the promotion of Living Donation.
  • Assists in designing and implementing appropriate evaluation tools to determine program effectiveness.
  • Supports and coordinates community education programs to promote organ and tissue donation.
  • Develops and support outreach partnerships to increase awareness of and commitment to organ and tissue donation, particularly in multicultural communities.
  • Assists in organizing community education programming to promote awareness and donor registration, including college, high school, community and faith-based outreach and related grant programs.
  • Collaborates with and support Community Relations staff in outreach to volunteers and external partners.
  • Supports ongoing and nonrecurring special projects, including programs for National Donate Life Month, National Donor Sabbath and National Minority Donor Awareness Month, and partnerships with DMVs, transplant centers and community health centers.
  • Supports major Community Relations events
  • Provides support for ongoing events including but not limited to: Donor Dash, Team Utah at the U.S. Transplant Games, and programs for donor families, patients on the transplant wait list and living donors.
  • Supports event logistics, budget, and evaluation of events.
  • Works with communications team on marketing, promotion, and media for events.
  • Coordinates recipient and transplant center outreach.
  • Coordinate the distribution of materials to transplant centers and transplant clinics throughout region, including tracking and measuring effectiveness
  • Builds and sustains relationships with local transplant centers to help promote events and outreach programs.
  • Supports data import into database program for events and programs.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Professional writing and interpersonal communications skills
  • A self-starter with a passion for community service and public health
  • Experience working with multicultural communities and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse group of staff, volunteers, and other constituents.
  • Public speaking and community outreach experience
  • Microsoft Office competencies including PowerPoint and Excel
  • Experience working with multicultural, faith-based, public health and/or community organizations, particularly those located in Utah.
  • Experience working in a professional office environment
  • The ability to lift up to 30 pounds, and set up displays/tables
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, communication, marketing, public health or related field.
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience working in non-profit community relations, event planning or public relations are required.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel throughout the State.
