Description:

The Maintenance Clerk at NFTA supports the Maintenance Department through clerical, manual, and automated tasks, ensuring smooth operations in both office and warehouse settings. The role combines administrative responsibilities with hands-on material handling and equipment operation, contributing to efficient maintenance workflows and inventory control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain office organization, including telephone communication, filing, and record management.

  • Handle materials and perform inventory control tasks, including cycle counts, storage, maintenance, and issuance of parts, supplies, and equipment.

  • Operate a forklift for loading and unloading trucks; safely handle other assigned equipment such as powered floor cleaners, pallet jacks, and trucks.

  • Receive, sort, examine, and collate routine records and reports.

  • Identify, investigate, and report inconsistencies or irregularities in work performed.

  • Perform normal and expedited office procedures including collecting, sorting, and distributing correspondence.

  • Input and process data using automated systems.

  • Exercise judgment to identify unsafe or irregular conditions, ensuring company property is protected.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient with modern office equipment: copiers, scanners, faxes, computers, keyboards, and printers.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, databases, and Outlook.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and maintain strong working relationships.

  • Skilled in teaching and training relief staff.

  • Certified to operate Power Industrial Vehicles (PIV/forklift).

  • Basic proficiency in Excel for spreadsheets, data collection, and report generation.

  • Understanding of inventory principles such as parts issuing, cycle counting, and location management.

Physical & Environmental Requirements:

  • Exert light physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 70 pounds.

  • Work primarily in office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Two years of experience in inventory control or parts supplying.

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License.

  • Must pass qualifying skills tests: typing (25 WPM), Excel spreadsheet, and clerks test.
