Description:
Planet’s Electrical Engineering team seeks a Senior Harness Engineer responsible for full lifecycle design, development, and delivery of the satellite wire harness systems critical to Planet’s large constellation of imaging satellites. The role includes 3D routing, 2D drawings, component selection, documentation, manufacturing support, and integration to ensure performance in the demanding environment of space.
End-to-end design of satellite wire harnesses from concept through production
Create 3D routing models and 2D fabrication drawings
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to ensure integration success
Select components including connectors, terminals, wire, sleeving, and conduit
Maintain critical design documents such as schematics, BOMs, and ECOs
Support manufacturing and integration teams through troubleshooting and issue resolution
Ensure assemblies meet strict quality, environmental, and compliance standards
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
6+ years of experience designing electrical wire harnesses in complex assemblies
Expertise with harness CAD tools (e.g., RapidHarness, SolidWorks Electrical)
Strong ability to create and read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Knowledge of version control and documentation release processes
Familiarity with IPC/NASA harness design standards
Knowledge of cable and harness assembly industry standards
Hands-on experience with harness fabrication (crimping, soldering, prototyping)
Familiarity with PLM systems
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced engineering environment
Interest in Planet’s humanitarian and environmental mission
Must meet EAR/ITAR eligibility requirements (access to export-controlled information)
Hybrid work requirement: 3 days/week onsite in San Francisco
