How you’ll create opportunities in this Manager/Director – NM Gross Receipts Tax role:
- Working closely with State and Local Tax (“SALT”) leadership, you will help drive SALT growth both internally and externally, with a focus on gross receipts tax consulting projects, while identifying seamless opportunities for CLA
- Manage gross receipts tax projects while identifying opportunities for client growth, and risk mitigation in a myriad of projects including, but not limited to, nexus studies; taxability decision matrices; voluntary disclosure agreement proceedings; prospective gross receipts tax compliance; gross receipts tax mapping/automation projects; exemption certificate queries; reverse audits; and due diligence projects (M&A)
- Represent clients in negotiations with taxing authorities in connection with gross receipts tax audits; state tax notices; Amnesty programs; voluntary disclosure agreement programs
- Identify clients and targets for SALT’s Sales Tax Outsourcing (“STO”) team for gross receipts tax compliance
- Develop staff (associates and senior associates) and continue to assist with growing and training the SALT team
- Partner with Industry leaders and NTO to develop thought leadership for gross receipts tax
- Meet with/build relationships with CRLs and industry leads to drive SALT growth and brand SALT internally and externally to bring in new clients and new SALT opportunities to existing clients
- Contribute to SALT’s growth plans and national growth network initiatives, including recruiting efforts
- Serve as a leader to ensure all CLA risk management policies and procedures, including engagement set-up; client billing and collections; and document retention policies are followed and that the SALT staff are trained and aware of all policies.
What You Will Need
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Experience: Six years of experience serving in a tax role with a public accounting firm and/or professional services firm.
- Certification/ Licenses: CPA certification. JD or EA (Enrolled Agent) may be accepted in place of CPA certification.
- Knowledge and understanding of NM gross receipts tax preferred.
