Description:
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is seeking a motivated Marketing Communications Intern to join its Office of Communications. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public relations, environmental marketing, and digital communications while supporting DNREC’s mission to protect Delaware’s environment for current and future generations.
Working under the supervision of the Marketing Manager, the intern will assist in developing engaging content, increasing brand visibility, and enhancing constituent engagement across multiple platforms. The role offers meaningful exposure to real-world marketing campaigns, media writing, and environmental communication initiatives within a professional government setting.
Assist in creating and managing content for DNREC’s various platforms including digital newsletters, the online magazine, social media channels, website, and printed materials.
Support drafting of articles, media advisories, press releases, and promotional content.
Collaborate with the communications team to implement comprehensive marketing strategies that align with DNREC’s mission and outreach goals.
Help manage social media pages, schedule posts, and monitor engagement metrics.
Contribute creative ideas for storytelling, visual content, and digital campaigns.
Assist in organizing events, outreach initiatives, and community engagement activities.
Maintain a positive and professional attitude while handling multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Education:
Must be an undergraduate student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
Knowledge & Skills:
Familiarity with marketing concepts, digital strategies, and brand communication.
Knowledge of social media management and content creation, including paid and boosted advertising posts.
Strong writing and editorial skills for marketing and media copy.
Experience with organizing, formatting, and editing information for dissemination across print, broadcast, or digital channels.
Basic knowledge of event promotion, photography, or videography preferred.
Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and reliability.
Possession of a valid driver’s license (required).
Duration: January to May 2026
Hours: Up to 29 hours per week
Work Schedule: Hybrid (combination of remote and in-office work)
Type: Casual/Seasonal – non-pension eligible, without healthcare or other benefits
Sponsorship: Not available (applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.)
