Materials Manager

 

Description:

Qualus is seeking a Materials Manager to oversee daily procurement activities, cycle count programs, and the ordering and receipt of shipments in compliance with regulations. The Materials Manager will directly supervise raw materials planning, scheduling, purchasing, and receiving functions to meet production and customer demands. This role requires an individual with strong leadership skills, organizational abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities:

Planning/Scheduling:

  • Plan and schedule effectively to meet production/customer demand.

  • Fulfill, monitor, and set safety stock levels to meet delivery targets and inventory reduction goals.

  • Oversee the creation, distribution, and maintenance of work orders.

  • Ensure all materials are available for successful execution on the shop floor.

Purchasing:

  • Oversee daily procurement activities to fulfill production demand.

  • Maintain sufficient raw material stocking levels to protect production and customer schedules.

  • Establish procedures for proper recording, storage, and tracking of materials.

  • Work with suppliers concerning forecasted needs and supply pipeline integrity.

Inventory:

  • Oversee cycle count program fulfillment and material disposition of obsolete or slow-moving materials.

  • Plan and lead the execution of semi-annual physical inventory.

  • Ensure transactional integrity, procedures, and policies are adhered to.

Logistics:

  • Oversee the ordering and receipt of shipments in compliance with regulations.

  • Coordinate deliveries and cost-saving efforts.

  • Schedule inbound deliveries with logistics providers.

Receiving:

  • Direct receiving personnel and functions to ensure accurate and timely execution of delivery receipts and put-away processes.

Supervisory and Managerial:

  • Supervise raw materials planning, scheduling, purchasing, and receiving functions.

  • Collaborate with Customer Service and Planning/Scheduling to improve manufacturing flow.

  • Align with the Director of Supply Chain for corporate objectives.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline.

  • Experience: 5+ years of supervisory experience in materials management.

  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

    • Ability to read/interpret blueprints, drawings, or technical materials.

    • Strong communication and team collaboration skills.

    • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.

    • APICS certification (preferred).

    • Experience with shipping, receiving, and bulk procurement in power-related fields (substations, transformers, etc.).

  • Field Work: Required to be in the field 50-75% of the time.
