Genentech’s Pharma Technical Operations (PT) Global MSAT & Engineering (PTT) group focuses on modernizing technical operations to deliver medicines efficiently and reliably. The Materials Science Technical Specialist/Expert role provides technical leadership on material topics and implements material-driven solutions across manufacturing and distribution networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize materials science expertise to support product portfolio and manufacturing networks, ensuring continuity and regulatory compliance.

  • Apply material knowledge to assess and improve manufacturing processes focusing on robustness, speed, efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

  • Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to standardize materials and resolve critical issues, including single-use technologies.

  • Represent PT as a technical lead to suppliers and external stakeholders, including technical visits and audits.

  • Lead projects related to material lifecycle management, standardization, and new material implementation aligned with Product Health goals.

  • Collaborate with site and global functions (Procurement, Supplier Quality, PTD) to identify appropriate or alternate materials.

  • Support Specification and Filing teams to implement fit-for-purpose materials for regulatory compliance.

  • Participate in deviation triages and CAPAs related to direct materials, ensuring timely resolution.


Qualifications:

  • BS/MS/PhD in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical/medical device industries.

  • Expertise in raw materials, material science, critical attribute assessments, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, especially drug product manufacturing.

  • Experience with single-use materials for aseptic filling is a plus.

  • Strong project management skills and knowledge of ICH guidelines, GMP, and health authority regulations.

  • Ability to interpret and apply Roche Quality standards and systems (CAPA, Change Management, risk assessment).

  • Detail-oriented with a strong quality mindset and commitment to service excellence.

  • Less than 10% travel required.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range: $115,000 - $213,600 annually.

  • Discretionary annual bonus potential.
