Network Automation Engineer

 

Description:

SpaceX is hiring a Network Automation Engineer for its Starshield initiative, leveraging Starlink technology to support national security efforts. This role focuses on building, scaling, and maintaining a highly reliable in-space and ground network for government customers. The engineer will design and implement tools, monitor network performance, and ensure operational reliability while collaborating with software engineers. This position supports critical national security missions and requires flexibility, technical expertise, and strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Deploy, upgrade, operate, and maintain global networking services for government customers

  • Collaborate with software engineers to ensure highly operable and maintainable infrastructure

  • Monitor and improve network uptime and performance

  • Act as technical product owner for infrastructure tools in the ground network (Access, Backbone, Edge Networks)

  • Innovate and scale network processes via automation

  • Mentor junior engineers

  • Participate in on-call rotation and support extended hours as needed

Required Skills:

  • Networking protocols: TCP/IPv4/IPv6, gaming, voice, video, broadcast, streaming

  • Linux OS experience

  • Automation experience in Python, Shell, Bash, or similar languages

  • Ability to work on mission-critical and sensitive systems

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of carrier/service provider networks

  • Experience in network infrastructure deployment and automation frameworks (Puppet, Ansible)

  • Monitoring tools: Prometheus, Grafana

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret or Top Secret SCI clearance

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel domestically and globally

  • Availability for on-call rotations and extended hours/weekends

  • Compliance with ITAR requirements
