Description:
Carilion Clinic, a mission-driven, not-for-profit healthcare organization headquartered in Roanoke, Virginia, is seeking a Thoracic Oncology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to serve as the Thoracic Oncology Service Line Coordinator. This full-time position is primarily day-shift, operating within clinic hours, with some remote opportunities available.
The APP will be a vital member of the thoracic oncology program, functioning as the primary point of contact for patients and providers, ensuring smooth care coordination, efficient workflows, and comprehensive support throughout the cancer care journey. This role requires advanced clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to provide patient-centered care and optimize outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary point of contact for oncology program patients and providers.
Receive, review, and process internal and external referrals.
Conduct initial consult visits with all thoracic oncology patients.
Order, schedule, and coordinate necessary diagnostic tests for cancer staging and follow-up.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement treatment plans.
Present and coordinate patient cases in tumor board discussions.
Provide education and counseling to patients and families about diagnosis, treatment options, medication regimens, and community resources.
Identify and help eliminate barriers to care to improve patient outcomes.
Facilitate communication across providers, departments, and the care continuum.
Develop patient education materials, clinical pathways, and contribute to quality improvement studies.
Support and participate in clinical trials related to thoracic oncology.
Track outcomes, collect data, and assist with strategic planning initiatives.

Requirements:
Graduate of an Accredited NP or PA program.
Current Virginia state license as NP or PA and DEA license (or eligibility to obtain).
AHA BLS-HCP and Advanced Life Support certification required.
Eligible for prescriptive authority under Virginia regulations.
Must qualify for malpractice insurance coverage under Carilion’s policies.
Strong collaboration skills with physicians and healthcare teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer literacy with ability to use EMR and clinical software.
