O&m Telecommunications Engineer

 

Description:

Hitachi Rail Honolulu is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated O&M Telecommunications Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The engineer will be responsible for assuring project delivery, managing requirements, coordinating documentation, arranging training, and ensuring proper interface management between teams. The role includes monitoring, oversight, and technical support of telecommunications and network systems, troubleshooting, and improving system performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the O&M Requirements Management across the project lifecycle, working closely with all project departments.

  • Provide oversight and technical support for telecommunications and network system equipment.

  • Monitor system components to detect potential failures and locate causes of malfunction.

  • Act as a subject matter expert to support field technicians in troubleshooting and fault resolution.

  • Conduct monthly Failure Reporting and Corrective Action analysis reports.

  • Maintain hardware and software configuration management via the Maintenance Management Information System.

  • Analyze logs to troubleshoot and improve systems.

  • Work with other subsystem engineers on complex multi-discipline problems.

  • Support on-site spare parts management and repair cycles.

  • Ensure compliance with project technical specifications.

  • Act as the primary point-of-contact for change management activities related to signaling and telecommunications.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of TLC Systems, components, and testing equipment.

  • 2 to 5+ years of field experience in related systems.

  • Experience with rail transit signaling systems (e.g., Automatic Train Control, Communication Base Train Control, Positive Train Control).

  • Ability to use specialized tools and test equipment.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently or in a team with minimal supervision.

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experience with Maintenance Management Information Systems (MMIS).

  • Working knowledge of rail transit subsystems (e.g., Automatic Train Supervision, Telecommunication, SCADA, CCTV).

  • Experience troubleshooting ATC equipment.

  • Basic knowledge of software configuration management and programming logic.

  • Familiarity with Linux or UNIX operating systems.

  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunication, Electrical, Computer Science, or related discipline.

  • English proficiency required.
