Patient Account Customer Service Representative

 

Description:

Ochsner Health, a leading healthcare provider with a rich history of innovation and service since 1942, is seeking a Patient Account Customer Service Representative to join their team in New Orleans, LA. This role is responsible for handling patient billing inquiries and providing exceptional customer service to ensure patients receive accurate and timely responses regarding their medical bill accounts.

As part of the organization’s commitment to delivering superior patient care and satisfaction, you will engage directly with patients to assist in billing inquiries, resolve account discrepancies, and collect outstanding balances while educating patients about payment options and financial responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Handle inbound and outbound calls, emails, faxes, and other forms of communication to address patient billing inquiries.

  • Act as a liaison between patients, providers, and external departments to ensure accurate application of charts and accounts.

  • Record and maintain transactions, ensuring prompt resolution of account balances and discrepancies.

  • Provide guidance to patients regarding payment options and explain the financial impact of various alternatives.

  • Deliver top-quality customer service to maintain high levels of patient satisfaction.

  • Manage workload effectively with minimal supervision while making independent decisions.

  • Remain compliant with relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in customer service, healthcare, or office setting.

  • Previous Call Center and medical billing experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency with computer systems and data entry.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with patients and stakeholders.

  • Ability to handle fluctuating workloads effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on patient satisfaction.

  • Proficiency with Windows-based applications and relevant software.


Physical and Work Environment

  • Sedentary work requiring occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds.

  • Primarily an office-based position with minimal exposure to hazardous materials.

  • Not eligible for remote work in certain U.S. states (Colorado, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington, and Washington D.C.).
