Description:

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, a Level 1 trauma and regional referral academic medical center, is seeking a Patient Representative for the University Hospital 3rd Shift. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that patients and their families receive exceptional care, support, and communication during their time at the medical center. The Patient Representative acts as a liaison between families, visitors, and the hospital staff, ensuring needs for information, visitation, physical comfort, and emotional and spiritual support are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide family support, education, mediation, and issue resolution in waiting areas and patient units.

  • Offer proactive customer service interventions by anticipating and responding to family and visitor needs.

  • Utilize empathetic verbal communication, diplomacy, and conflict resolution skills to address concerns.

  • Collaborate with volunteers and other OSUWMC services to ensure seamless communication and support.

  • Promote customer service behaviors and Service Plus skills to enhance patient and family satisfaction.

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating programs and services that foster positive patient relations.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.

  • Availability to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 8:00 PM to 6:30 AM.

  • Evidence of customer service skills, ability to collaborate across the organization, and refined interpersonal skills.

  • Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, planning, and verbal/written communication skills.

  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related fields, communication, or social sciences; 2–4 years of relevant experience.

Additional Information:

  • Location: Rhodes Hall (0354)

  • Scheduled Hours: 40 per week
