Description:
Physical Education/Health teachers work closely with members in the department in creating and implementing the PE/Health curriculum. Collaboration on a day-to-day basis is needed for a successful PE/Health/Athletics program. Physical Education/Health teachers use best judgement for real time decision making during classes, practices, and competitions, striving to align with school and athletics mission statements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead teaches/assists in all levels of Physical Education classes
- Lead teaches all levels of Health classes
- Develops and implements all curricula
- Keeps records of parent communications and reports same to Director
- Maintains updated records of each student’s progress
- Serves as Head/Assistant Coach for sports teams as assigned
- Performs daily recess monitoring duties for Elementary and Middle School students
- Responsible for maintaining fields, gymnasium, and equipment
- Works cooperatively with classroom guides and assistants
- Prepares and submits required reports, including conference reports
- Participates in a regular evaluation process including classroom observations, self-evaluation, and annual goal setting
- Strives to exhibit the behavior described in the Alcuin Standards of Faculty Excellence
- Communicates with parents, administrators, and student support staff concerning the emotional and physical well-being of students
- Creates, implements, and grades Physical Education/Health IB lesson plans and assessments as needed
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Attends community functions as detailed in the Staff Handbook
- Conducts conferences with parents
- Completes State mandated bus driver training
- Other tasks as assigned by Head of School or Athletic Director
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Ability to provide documents verifying authorization to work in the U.S.
- Must pass Criminal Background Checks and Drug Testing
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to interact and communicate appropriately and professionally with parents, students, and colleagues
- Current standard first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications
- Must have ability to fully demonstrate physical skills required for lessons, activities and drills for PE classes and athletic teams
- Creativity in lesson planning and implementation
- Ability to motivate and inspire students
