As Principal IoT Connectivity Engineer, you will be responsible for leading technology development of complex IoT, networked, and secure subsystems for application within the commercial foodservice industry. In this individual contributor role, you’ll work on a variety of systems and software-based design challenges. Your subject-matter expertise and innovative thinking will help ensure we offer cutting-edge and reliable technology solutions that enhances the customer experience and our market advantage.

This role is subject to our hybrid work model: we collaborate in the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The rest of the week, you have flexibility to work wherever it suits you best.

What You’ll Do

  • Work closely with product management, marketing, operations, supply chain, and lab personnel to generate technology platforms and product modules that are based on tactically selected innovative technologies in the commercial appliances space.
  • Serve as MFT’s subject-matter expert in IoT, networking systems, and security; provide effective solutions to a range of customer needs, generate original concepts, and mentor other engineers to become better versed in connectivity and security
  • Integrate and implement network and IoT protocols such as TLS, MQTT, HTTP and HTTPS
  • Maintain strong understanding of industry trends, competitive landscape, and customer portfolios
  • Propose and lead technology projects in smart equipment leading the way to interconnected data driven products
  • Develop systems to collect data and aggregate and leverage data across multiple types of systems
  • Leverage sensors, motors, stepper drives, controls, data logging, and smart systems to ensure smooth and secure communications across multiple devices
  • Collaborate with other team members to design a user interface to access collected data and design reports to monitor field deployed assets.
  • Review the design and code developed by peer engineers

Technical Experience We’re Looking For

  • Knowledge of communication protocols such as ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, Z-wave, Zigbee, cloud computing and secure OTA updates
  • Knowledgeable of emerging technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, DevSecOps, etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software design, analysis, and programming using various languages (e.g., c, c#, c++, Ruby, python, Java, Perl, node.js.)
  • Experience with AW services (e.g., APIGateway, DynamoDb, IoTCore, S3, Kinesis, GreenGrass)
  • Demonstrated understanding of cloud computing software architectures and data management
  • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end product development and product launches
  • Systems thinker with holistic approach to analysis that focuses on how a system’s individual parts interact and how the systems deliver expected results
  • Innovative mindset to tactically select appropriate tools and apply them to foodservice products based in the Industry 4.0 technologies (Internet of Things, smart equipment, autonomous systems)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering or Computer Science
  • 10 years of experience designing and implementing complex secure communication protocols
