Description:

The State of South Dakota is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Production Supervisor/Job Coach to join the South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC) in Redfield. This role is integral in providing vocational supports and guidance to clients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, primarily in the operation of the facility’s Canteen. The SDDC’s mission is to enhance quality of life and promote community inclusion through comprehensive specialized services, and this position plays a vital part in achieving that mission.

The selected candidate will supervise and coach clients working in the Canteen, ensuring vocational skills development, compliance with operational procedures, and a safe, supportive environment. Responsibilities include managing daily operations such as running the till, maintaining accurate accounting, assisting in menu planning and food preparation, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory. The role also involves coordinating vocational programs, monitoring client progress, adapting work processes to meet client needs, and ensuring high-quality service delivery.

This is a hands-on supervisory position requiring adaptability, strong communication skills, and the ability to train and guide clients in a professional, respectful, and supportive manner. The Production Supervisor/Job Coach must also collaborate closely with Industrial Workshop Managers and other staff to ensure consistent vocational support and program integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide vocational supports and supervision to clients working in the Canteen.

  • Staff and coach clients while the Canteen is open, ensuring tasks are completed in line with program guidelines.

  • Manage financial operations including running the till, accounting, and budget reporting.

  • Assist with menu planning, food preparation, and ordering products.

  • Monitor, record, and analyze sales and inventory statistics on weekly, monthly, and annual bases.

  • Adapt work areas and processes to meet client needs and enhance vocational opportunities.

  • Train, guide, and mentor clients with developmental disabilities, promoting workplace inclusion and skills development.

  • Collaborate with staff, clients, and vendors to ensure smooth operations.

  • Ensure compliance with program standards, sanitation practices, and budgetary requirements.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned in line with organizational goals.

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

  • Ability to obtain Serve Safe Certification.

  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of sanitation, food service practices, and vocational training processes.

  • Ability to adapt processes to meet client needs while maintaining program compliance.
