Production Tooling Designer

Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Production Tooling Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the design and development of custom production tooling used to accurately hold and position workpieces during manufacturing processes such as cutting, assembly, and inspection. This role focuses on creating specialized jigs and fixtures that ensure consistent product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

The successful candidate will troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues, implement timely design improvements, and collaborate closely with Process Operations, New Product Development (NPD), Manufacturing, and Quality Engineering teams to transition products from development into production. Responsibilities include transforming engineering specifications into detailed CAD designs for manufacturing tooling and fixtures, while providing guidance on GD&T, critical dimensions, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create new tooling and fixture designs using parametric solid modeling software to develop detailed assemblies and part drawings.
  • Evaluate engineering concepts and specifications, providing recommendations for design improvements and manufacturability.
  • Design complex fixtures with consideration for manufacturability, safety, reliability, performance, cost, and material selection.
  • Identify design errors, omissions, and improvement opportunities throughout the validation process, including redline reviews.
  • Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), documenting design changes and technical justifications.
  • Review layouts and drawings for accuracy, completeness, compliance with standards, calculations, dimensioning, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers on CAD standards and Product Data Management (PDM) systems while maintaining model integrity.
  • Prepare and present design proposals to cross-functional teams to obtain alignment and approval.
  • Support additional engineering and design activities as required.

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree or equivalent in a related technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related design experience.
