Production Underwriter

 

Description:

Ryan Specialty is seeking a Production Underwriter for its RT Connector division, based in Chicago, IL. This role focuses on managing, underwriting, and expanding a profitable book of business within the Property & Casualty sector through proactive engagement with retail agents and insurance partners. The Production Underwriter will play a critical role in assessing risks, determining appropriate coverage, driving revenue, and strengthening relationships with clients and internal teams.

The selected candidate will be responsible for soliciting new clients, analyzing exposures, pricing risks, negotiating terms, and binding policies via RT Connector and other carrier partners. This position requires a strong understanding of underwriting practices, risk evaluation, and client management.


Key Responsibilities:

Production & Business Development:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with retail agents to drive submission flow and improve bind rates.

  • Support agents throughout the quoting and binding process, ensuring efficient use of RT Connector.

  • Proactively engage non-active users by conducting meetings, demos, and educational sessions to promote platform adoption.

  • Manage renewal pipelines, ensuring high retention through active engagement and professional support.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and underserved markets.

  • Collaborate closely with Business Development and RT Binding teams to optimize digital and traditional placement workflows.

Underwriting & Risk Assessment:

  • Assess, price, and renew accounts in accordance with company and carrier underwriting guidelines.

  • Accurately select class codes, rating bases, and coverage forms.

  • Determine endorsements and communicate quote conditions clearly to clients.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of underwriting thought processes and decisions.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and provide valuable feedback to improve platform functionality and user experience.

  • Analyze inspection reports and risk information to make sound underwriting judgments.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required (Business Administration or Risk Management preferred); Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in Property & Casualty Binding Authority and Insurance Underwriting.

  • Licenses: State P&C and/or surplus line licenses required.

  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
