Description:
Kitchell is seeking an experienced and dedicated Project Accountant to join our Northern California region in Sacramento and build a long-term career at one of the most innovative and growth-oriented building companies in the United States. As a Project Accountant, you will manage multiple project invoices and bills, review budgets, and prepare financial reports.
Location
This role is located in our Sacramento office and is eligible for a hybrid schedule after a waiting period. This role is not eligible for a remote schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities
Invoicing
- Prepare invoice package containing all necessary backup for approval, investigate project expenses not billed to customers, and prepare labor adjustments as necessary.
- Support effective client relationships and submit project invoices.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to the client billings.
Project and Contract Maintenance
- Set up new projects and close projects upon completion in the ERP system.
- Effectively communicate with Project Managers regarding contracts, amendments, and any additional services related to invoicing.
- Analyze contracts and keep up-to-date maintenance of contracts.
Project Accounting
- Review, code, and approve accounts payable items to ensure consultant and vendor invoices are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Review consultant billings and compliance with consultants’ agreements.
- Maintain coding and allocations for fixed assets, leased equipment, and leased offices/trailers.
- Prepare project and overhead-related journal entries. Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Deposit checks and provide advice on receipts from clients.
- Monitor accounts receivable and supports project managers with collection efforts.
Compliance and Analysis
- Assist with account reconciliations, audits, and analyze the P & L accounts as directed by the accounting supervisor.
- Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
- Collect appropriate data and prepare state and local reports and tax returns.
- Provide assistance with project forecasting, provide related analysis, and investigate variances.
- Assist with the filing of state and local reports and tax returns as directed by the accounting manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- One year or more of position related work experience in accounting or a related field.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, including project-oriented practices and procedures.
- User Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to achieve results, demonstrate initiative, and communicate effectively in a teamwork environment.
