Racial Justice Fellowship Attorney

 

Description:

The Center for Law and Education (CLE), a national non-profit organization focused on improving educational quality for all students, seeks an experienced attorney for a Racial Justice Fellowship in Boston. This two-year, grant-funded position is designed for long-term sustainability with the potential for continued employment. The fellow will support CLE’s mission by addressing issues affecting immigrant and migrant students, particularly ensuring schools protect student information, prevent unauthorized sharing of records, and assist in the timely enrollment of these students. The role includes working directly with students, families, and educational institutions to ensure that all students meet high academic expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure schools adopt procedures to protect student information

  • Address unauthorized student record sharing between schools, officers, and police

  • Assist families in ensuring timely enrollment and high educational standards for immigrant/migrant students

  • Work on administrative advocacy and policy development

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a licensed attorney

  • Licensed in Massachusetts or eligible for admission through state rules

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills

  • Commitment to social justice, with a focus on addressing inequities in public education

  • Knowledge of Title I, special education law, and federal civil rights laws

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team

  • Proficiency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cabo Verdean Creole, or other relevant languages highly preferred

Desirable Skills:

  • Teaching or experience with immigrant communities, multilingualism

  • Prior legal experience in education law, litigation, and policy

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $75,000+ annually (based on experience)

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time, exempt hybrid position (at least 3 days per week in Boston office near Chinatown)
