As an Xray Tech, you will be responsible for assessing patients, performing routine and specialized radiographic procedures safely, and ensuring diagnostic quality in accordance with all prescribed protocols and safety standards. You will also act as a clinical mentor to junior technologists and radiology students, helping to uphold Ochsner’s reputation for clinical excellence and continuous learning.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify physician orders and perform imaging procedures accurately according to established protocols.

  • Operate radiologic equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images while maintaining strict safety measures.

  • Utilize radiology information systems to manage workflow and patient data efficiently.

  • Explain procedures to patients clearly and compassionately to ensure understanding and cooperation.

  • Review and validate images to ensure compliance with diagnostic standards before transmission.

  • Perform timely quality control checks and address any technical or regulatory concerns.

  • Assist with departmental functions, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, and scheduling.

  • Adapt communication and care approaches to meet the needs of patients of all ages and backgrounds.

  • Maintain compliance with all relevant laws, safety regulations, and accreditation standards.


Educational Requirements:

  • Required: Completion of an approved Radiologic Technology program.

  • Preferred: Additional training or coursework in advanced imaging techniques.


Certifications:

  • Required:

    • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) OR eligible to obtain registration within 90 days of employment.

    • Current unrestricted state license in Radiologic Technology.

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong computer and data entry skills with proficiency in Windows-based systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanor.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a healthcare team.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities with a patient-centered approach.


Physical and Environmental Demands:

  • Requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 100 lbs with assistance or devices.

  • Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potentially hazardous materials in a healthcare setting.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.

  • Regular travel between facilities may be required.
